The provinces of Groningen, Friesland and Drenthe government have – since 1992 – joined forces in the Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland (SNN). SNN develops common policies. The SNN discusses with the national government on matters that concern the entire North. SNN not only focuses on the North, but also has strong ties with Europe. As the management authority  for the Northern Netherlands it executes a European program. This program include the support of entrepreneurs who want to invest in the North.

Main mission of the Alliance Northern Netherlands is to strengthen the economy of the northern Netherlands and to strengthen the competitiveness of the Netherlands in Europe. This annual report opens with three images that illustrate 'together', 'work' and 'North Netherlands' .
